So you want to go Zero Waste? Great! There are so many steps you can take toward reducing the amount you throw away and leaving a smaller impact on our planet.
One of the first steps to going zero waste can be doing a trash audit. Take a good look at what you use and, more importantly, what you throw away. This will help you figure out ways to reduce the things that you throw out the most often [1]. When you embark on your zero waste journey, experts say that you should consider things like plastic, single-use products, and fast-fashion items [1]. Reusing and recycling the things that you do need to buy is key. Glass jars make great storage, and you can use an old clothing a reusable, washable rags [1].
As well as making our home lives eco-friendly and low waste, we can also look at what we do outside of our homes. Carrying zero waste products around with us can extend the positive impact we have in our daily lives. Carrying products that like these reusable drinking straws, our travel cutlery set when going out to eat, and reusable bags for grocery shopping are a great way to start.
One of the easiest ways to change your lifestyle towards being lower waste is to change the way you shop. Shopping second-hand is a great way to give products a new lease of life and lower the impact you are having on the environment [2]. We recently wrote a blog post all about how to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle clothing – be sure to check it out if you need some inspiration in your low waste journey! Clothing isn’t the only thing you can buy second hand though! You can also look at buying furniture, cars, electronics, and near enough anything else second hand too! [2]
